Opinion on the Cochrane Review of Folic Acid
19.11.2009
Once again a review leads to more confusion than clarification with regard to important questions concerning micronutrients – this time even from the elite cadre of scientific reviews, namely The Cochrane Collaboration. The authors’ conclusion, namely that the evidence from available published trials does not support homocysteine-lowering intervention for the prevention of cardiovascular events, must be strongly refuted. For more details read the opinion from Prof. Klaus Pietrzik, that was prepared in co-operation with our Association. Pietrzik impressively illustrates the problems of reviews that are often “mathematically correct, but factually wrong”.
